About Endemic Birding Safaris
A Uganda-based birding safari company built on avian expertise, conservation partnerships, and a deep passion for East Africa's extraordinary birdlife.
East Africa's Premier Birding Specialist
Endemic Birding Safaris is a locally owned destination management company specializing in bespoke birding expeditions across Uganda, Rwanda, Kenya, and Tanzania. From our base in Kampala, Uganda, our expert ornithological guides secure access to prime birding sites, coordinate every logistics detail, and connect you with East Africa's most sought-after endemic species and rare avifauna.
Birders choose Endemic Birding Safaris because the people planning your trip are the same field experts who know where the Shoebill feeds at dawn, when the Green-breasted Pitta calls, and which forest trails reveal the African Green Broadbill.

Our Story
From Field Notes to Full-Service Birding Safaris
The Endemic Birding Safaris story begins with a simple passion: an obsession with East Africa's extraordinary avifauna and a commitment to share these wonders with fellow birders worldwide.
Founded by Kamusiime Prudence and Arshley Brian—an extraordinary team blending strategic leadership with a world-class ornithologist holding a 997-species Ugandan life list—Endemic Birding Safaris emerged from years of leading birding groups through Uganda's forests, wetlands, and savannahs. What started as guided walks in Mabamba Swamp and Budongo Forest grew into comprehensive multi-country expeditions designed specifically for serious birders and nature photographers.
Our approach has always been clear: quality over quantity. Rather than racing through checklists, we design itineraries that allow time for observation, photography, and genuine appreciation of avian behavior in natural habitats. We target endemics and specialties while maintaining flexibility for unexpected sightings and optimal birding conditions.
"Those early mornings in Kibale Forest, searching for the elusive Green-breasted Pitta, taught us that exceptional birding requires patience, local knowledge, and respect for both the birds and their habitats. Every tour we design honors that lesson."
Today, Endemic Birding Safaris is recognized as a premier birding operator in East Africa, trusted by ornithologists, lifelisters, photographers, and nature enthusiasts seeking expert-led expeditions to some of Africa's most biodiverse birding destinations.
How We Work
What Makes Endemic Birding Safaris Different
Every birding safari we design begins with understanding your targets, your birding style, and your timeline—then building an itinerary that maximizes your chances while respecting the habitats we visit. After over a decade of leading birding expeditions throughout East Africa, we've learned that exceptional birding depends on details most operators overlook—the right season for target species, dawn starts for vocal activity, strategic positioning for photography, and guides who recognize calls instantly. At Endemic Birding Safaris, birding excellence is never left to chance.
Expert Ornithological Guides
Our guides aren't just drivers who know birds—they're dedicated ornithologists and field naturalists with over 15 years of birding experience in East African ecosystems. Each guide:
- • Holds professional birding/ornithology certifications
- • Maintains comprehensive regional bird knowledge (800+ East African species)
- • Carries optical equipment and field guides for reference
- • Records daily sightings and contributes to citizen science databases (eBird)
- • Understands bird behavior, vocalizations, and habitat preferences
Specialized Birding Itineraries
We don't adapt general wildlife safaris for birders—we design birding-first expeditions:
- • Endemic Focus: Targeted itineraries for Uganda's 24 endemics, Albertine Rift specialties, and regional rarities
- • Seasonal Timing: Tours scheduled around migration patterns, breeding seasons, and optimal visibility
- • Strategic Locations: Accommodation selected for proximity to key birding sites, not tourist convenience
- • Flexible Schedules: Dawn starts, evening owling sessions, and weather-dependent adjustments
- • Small Groups: Maximum 6 birders per guide for optimal viewing and movement

Arshley Brian
Founder & Senior Endemic Species Specialist
Arshley Brian represents the gold standard of East African birding expertise, combining an extraordinary personal species count of 997 Ugandan birds with deep academic knowledge and unmatched field experience. Born and raised within the boundaries of Queen Elizabeth National Park, Arshley's connection to Uganda's wildlife began in childhood, nurtured by his father's work as an interpretive nature guide and his own daily encounters with the park's incredible biodiversity.
His academic journey reflects his passionate commitment to understanding East Africa's ecosystems. After excelling at advanced level studies, Arshley earned a prestigious scholarship to the International University of East Africa, where he pursued a Bachelor's Degree in Tourism Operations and Forestry. His academic excellence continued with a Master's Degree in Forestry, where he specialized in forest ecosystem management and biodiversity conservation—knowledge that proves invaluable when guiding clients through East Africa's complex forest habitats in search of endemic species.
His field credentials are truly exceptional. Arshley's participation in Uganda's Big Birding Day 2016 resulted in a second-place finish among the country's most accomplished birders, while his recognition at the First African Birding Expo as Uganda's youngest professional tour guide highlighted his precocious expertise. His personal favorite species, the elusive Green-breasted Pitta, represents the kind of challenging endemic species that defines Endemic Birding Safaris' specialized focus.
Arshley played a pivotal role in the rediscovery of Uganda's endemic bird species as Lead Ecotourism Guide Expert with Nature Uganda, and contributed directly to the creation of Uganda's national bird checklist — a landmark achievement in East African ornithology. He is the founder of Destination Birders, a tourism education group dedicated to flora and fauna knowledge sharing.
